Who doesn’t like a monthly calendar from Action for Happiness! This November they zoom into the benefit of learning new things.

When we learn something new we exercise our brain in a specific way. When we exercise we strengthen and stimulate parts of our body – we’re making existing muscle cells stronger. Learning is like a “mental exercise” whereby we’re not making new brain cells, rather we are strengthening the connections between them. Learning new things and having new experiences are fundamental to keeping the brain in good condition.

The positive effects include healthy behaviour, emotional resilience, better physical and mental health. Learning triggers ideas and promotes creative thinking and curiosity.
