Mental Health Awareness week UK is 13th -19th of May and this year the focus is on “Body Image” and how this affects Mental Health. Body image starts in the mind, not the mirror. How we perceive ourselves and how we think others see us is about us as a whole: our emotional mind and our physical body.
A healthy body image means we truly accept and really like the way we look. It means we are not continuously thinking of how we should be. “Healthy” means we can identify some qualities and strengths that make us feel good. It is about moving away from the “perfect” idealistic image that is often portrayed to or perceived by us.
“80% of teenage girls are unhappy with their body image”
“45 % of adolescent boys want to change their weight or body shape”
